Creative Bookbinding

taught by
MARION
LAFOUGERE
Marion, a former cinema professional, trained at Les Ateliers du Vésinet in both contemporary and traditional bookbinding. She now restores antique books and creates bespoke pieces—wedding and birth books, artist’s works, and unique notebooks—combining craftsmanship, playful design, and a love of paper and leather.
Workshop: Creative Bookbinding for Beginners
Have you ever wished you could make your own notebook, create a handmade gift, or turn scraps and sketches into a beautiful keepsake? Bookbinding is the perfect way to combine creativity with craft. With just a few simple techniques, you can make traditional stitched books, thoughtful presents for friends, or even expressive junk journals from recycled materials. Once you know the basics, the possibilities are endless.
In this three-evening, hands-on workshop, you’ll be introduced step by step to the art of bookbinding. No previous experience is required – just curiosity and a love for paper and making things by hand. Over the course of three sessions (2 hours each), you’ll leave with three finished books and the skills and inspiration to continue your bookbinding journey – whether that’s making practical notebooks, heartfelt gifts, or playful, experimental journals.

Evening 1 – Stitched A5 Notebook
Learn a simple but striking binding technique that leaves the stitching visible on the outside. Using colored thread, you’ll create an A5 notebook that’s as practical as it is decorative – perfect for jotting down notes, sketches, or ideas.

Evening 2 – Leporello (Accordion-Style Booklet)
Discover how to fold and assemble a leporello, a versatile format that can be used as a mini photo album, an art display, or a creative journal. You’ll work in A6 size with your choice of watercolor paper or black paper – ideal for photos, collage, or small artworks.

Evening 3 – Folded Pocket Notebook
Finish the workshop by making a compact A6 notebook with a folded pocket structure. This clever design combines pages for writing with handy pockets for holding tickets, photos, or little treasures.
