New Creative Classes at The Hangar Art Centre

We’re delighted to announce three new additions to our programme at The Hangar Art Centre: Jewellery Making, Calligraphy, and a Bookbinding Workshop. Each class offers the chance to learn from talented artists and craftspeople, explore new skills, and create something truly personal.

Jewellery Making with Françoise Weber

Since 2009, Françoise Weber has been crafting high-quality costume jewellery using gemstones, freshwater pearls, Bohemian and Swarovski crystals, wood, shells, and metals. In this class, she will share her expertise, teaching you how to create rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and more.

Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, Françoise will guide you in designing pieces that reflect your individual style and story. This class is taught in both French and English.

Calligraphy with Dominique Cadu

Professional calligrapher Dominique Cadu brings a fresh and innovative approach to this timeless art form. Passionate about exploring new perspectives, Dominique combines traditional calligraphy with modern, personal expression.

In this class, you’ll learn the technical foundations of Latin calligraphy, experiment with different styles, and try out a variety of tools to develop your own writing style. For those who wish, calligraphy can be combined with engraving—opening up creative possibilities for print series or projects that blend lettering with illustration.

Suitable for beginners as well as more experienced students, this class is taught in both French and English.

Bookbinding Workshop with Marion Lafougère

Trained at Les Ateliers du Vésinet in both contemporary and traditional bookbinding, Marion Lafougère restores antique books and creates bespoke works ranging from wedding and birth books to artist’s pieces and playful, one-of-a-kind notebooks. Her passion for craftsmanship, paper, and leather shines through in every creation.

This three-evening workshop introduces you to the art of handmade books:

  • Evening 1 – Stitched A5 Notebook
Learn a simple yet striking binding technique that leaves the stitching visible on the outside. Using coloured thread, you’ll create a practical and decorative A5 notebook, perfect for notes, sketches, or ideas.

  • Evening 2 – Leporello (Accordion-Style Booklet)
Discover how to fold and assemble a leporello, an adaptable format that works as a mini photo album, an art display, or a creative journal. You’ll work in A6 size with your choice of watercolour or black paper—ideal for photos, collage, or small artworks.

  • Evening 3 – Folded Pocket Notebook
Finish the workshop by making a compact A6 notebook with a clever folded pocket structure. This design combines pages for writing with built-in pockets for tickets, photos, or little keepsakes.

If there is sufficient interest, this workshop may be extended into a regular class.
